Makes tons of sense. End of Sept-early Oct. will be great weatherwise wherever you go, then. I've heard wonderful things about the Grand Canyon--I imagine you'd need extra flash cards for your camera, though, considering all of the beautiful photo opportunities that would present themselves! :)

How far ahead are you planning/when would you be traveling? If you're tempted by the Northeast, you could do a lovely tour of Boston/Cape Cod/Maine, etc. just about any time of year, and I'd love to see you! ...that said, summers get hot in Boston (think MN, with fewer mosquitoes). If your anniversary is this summer, you could also try an Alaskan cruise--my aunt and uncle (who are both very fond of crisp weather) went on a small-scale one a few years ago and had nothing but fabulous things to say. And hey, you'd have reason to wear & make fabulous handknitted garments.

I really loved the grand canyon when I went a few years ago. Block Island, RI is also on my list of favorite places.
