No Internet For YOU!

Seriously. AT&T owns the line that goes into the house. So Verizon can’t provide me internet services. (Shouldn’t I as the consumer be able to choose who I want my services with? But no, I guess this is regulated by the FCC. Thanks Big Brother for fucking it up!).

So I call AT&T right, no biggie since I really don’t care who gets me to the internet as long as I can still upload my pictures & update my ravelry account. What does AT&T tell me? That their “hub is full, and we will not be able to provide you with service at this time”. So they own the line, won’t let anyone else provide me the DSL that I want but won’t provide it to me either?

No folks. There are very little things that I really get upset with customer service representatives for. I get upset at out right stupidity (not knowing the answers or stubbornly telling me something I KNOW is wrong). Everything else is NOT their fault and I can chill as long as they need me to on hold. I’m zen like that.

BUT! When you do not know when I can get Internet services from your company on the phone line that YOU OWN or what it means that your “hub is full” or where I can look up this mysterious FCC regulation that chooses my Internet and phone services for me, you fail. Hard core.

Now Direct TV is telling me that the partner they have in my area is AT&T. HAHAHAHAHAHAhaha haha ha. *sigh*. We might have to go farmer style and have satellite Internet. In a suburb. A suburb located 45 minutes northwest of Los Angeles, and 35 minutes south of Santa Barbara, and 45 minutes from The Valley. Here, we have no Internet access.

So what do you do now?!

  1. I’m laughing and crying about this…it reminds me of the South Park episode that came out this week where the town has no internet access. It was done like “Grapes of Wrath” and in black and white. Very funny. People were going thru withdrawals.

  2. Welcome to At&t and the service SUCKS. DSL finally became available in the RT that serves my home about a year ago. I signed up as soon as I got that information. My due date for service came and went, and still a red light on the modem that I PAID $50 for. The people in St Louis in provisioning say it is not available in my area, but I spoke with the field engineer that installed the equipment in the RT and he even came to my home and ran checks and tagged the line good. Too bad St Louis dosen’t have a habit of communicating with the techs in the field. Also kind of funny that I can step in my front yard and get 6 2wireXXX signals, but it isn’t in my area???? I am in IT and last time I checked, ATT was the only provider with a 2wire SSID, then again maybe every one of my neighbors is in a conspiracy and renamed their linksys access points!! To make it even harder to bear, the only thing resembling broadband that I can get is 3G through my favorite company and I have to limit myself to 5GB a month. Now they can’t even get the caller ID fixed on my home phone line, and I only have the line for DSL even though I now found out I can get a drop with no dial tone for just DSL, but of course they won’t promote that with companies like vonage and packet 8. It seems like with all the name changes and whatever the front end dosen’t know what the back end is doing. Hell, they don’t even have the courtesy to return my calls within 24 hours as promised. There, had to say this somewhere. Just got off an hour phone call with them again with no results. If anyone else has this issue, please drop me a line about your experience.
