Knit with the Fishes!

The Mr & I went down to San Diego this weekend for one of the Cigar Brother’s birthdays. The party was quite fun and boy does he have an amazing view from his house.  A good time was had by all.  Sunday morning we parted ways with the parents and headed to the Scripts Aquarium.  (It should be said that we are probably now considered bad grandchildren for not going with them to Costa De Caza and celebrating Grandma’s birthday, but you know what? The Mr is 30 a day after Grandma’s birthday and this is kind of his year. It’s really hard to be nice and grown up about birthdays with people who don’t recognize yours in the least. Yes I’m a selfish brat about this, but you know what? I’m an adult and that’s my choice).

So yes, off to the aquarium we went. I have to say, timing was perfect. The Mr and I usually do things on Sunday morning while most people are in church. The crowds are the perfect size.

Supposedly, according to the volunteer there (the one that is trying to walk into my shot) getting the full hieght of the whales is really hard & he hasn’t seen people really do it. Um, this wasn’t hard at all, so I don’t know what he’s talking about.

The Mr didn’t smile much because he had hurt himself on bourbon the night before.

You know what’s hard? Taking pictures at an aquarium. It’s dark, the subjects move, and you have little kids fucking pushing you out of the way. I repeat “WHERE ARE YOUR PARENTS?” I was never allowed to act like this when I was their age. But then again I have “The Meanest Mom In The Whole Wide World Who Believes In Manners!”.

Neon eel attack!!! You know, I have no idea why this turned out the way it did. They used a whole lot of colored lights at the aquarium because I think that most of the fishes are nocturnal.

Most pictures were blurry or ruined by the kid pushing, but some came out randomly super clear.

Most fish expressions look like they are either giving you the stink eye or that they are thinking “What, do I have something on my face?” D:

In other non-fish news there be knitting!

Fuzzy lace pictures for ALL! Because I know I LOVE fuzzy lace pictures. *eye roll* But it’s hard cause I’m increasing and have no way to really straiten it out yet.

1/2 way done with Lady Eleanor. Now you can see much more black in it, but I still really love it.

  1. Ooh, I need to go to the aquarium again! And you’re totally right about it being hard as hell to take pics, there are ALWAYS crowds, and kids are jerks.

  2. Yay, fishes! Aquariums are sweet. I usually don’t try to take pictures because of the funny lighting but I definitely visit aquariums whenever I can. Your pics came out great!

  3. F! Grandma. J/K. Sort of. ;-)
I will say this as often as I think necessary. YOU COULD SELL YOUR PICTURES. For cash money. You’re talented. The end.

  4. I’d go see fishes on my 30th too if I had the chance! But I had no grandma to speak of, so maybe I’m biased like that. Great pics! The whale pic looks doable. I don’t think you talked to a qualified photography inclined person when they told you it was hard. Angle. Angle. Angle. Christmas trees in SF…doable. Enough said.
