Knit, Crochet & Blog Contest Reminder!

Just a reminder before I start off this post people, my BLOG CONTEST comes to a close tomorrow when the Mr will pull a random number out of a hat & you will get an amazing fiber filled package :) All you have to do is comment & you are entered. I’ve been emailed & bugged about not posting the rest of last week so here’s a vain little post for you all :P

Now on to fiber related goodness.
I, um, well….I crocheted something.
I know, I know, don’t harass me. I’m a knitter first and will always be one, but you know? It was fun. It is faster and so that really feeds my product driven self. I’m not going to run out and become a hook wielding mad woman, it seems more work than knitting, but I did buy Blueprint Crochet which is seriously cute & am going to challenge myself to make at least 2 of the sweaters in there.

Pattern: Fan Crocheted Bookmark
Yarn: Malabrigo in sunset (one skein)
Hook: K
Verdict: Fun for the most part. See, I don’t remember a whole lot about doing this. I think I went into a crochet induced state where in I zoned out completely and when I came out of it this was done. I like the scarf & may do it again in a bulky weight yarn. It was fun & easy. Being that this was my second only crochet project you know I’m not lieing to you :)
I have to say though, and maybe it’s because I haven’t really been looking that long, but crochet patterns? There doesn’t seem to be as many wonderful patterns as there is for knitting. Mostly I would look at them and think “WHY?! Why would you do that? Just because you CAN doesn’t mean you should.” I KNOW crocheter’s who are cool, young & hip, why aren’t there more patterns that reflect that? I think this is the biggest thing keeping me from crochet. Does everything have to be a granny square?
What else did I do this weekend? I finally put buttons on my CPH. You know what? Buttons make me love this sweater even more! These are not really my first choice, though they look quite nice against the green, but you know what? Ventura has a terrible selection of button shops. Or maybe I have weird taste in buttons.
Also?
I’m getting ready for my vacation. Now you have to use a little bit of imagination here. These socks are some that I have passed over many many times. White. Cotton. Anklets? EW. That’s all I have to say. As brilliant as Mrs. Bush is this book is filled with terrible color/pattern combinations. BUT! Then I saw nikkinimble’s version& thought OMG! Beautiful! (Click over, you will have the same experience) and so I tried to knit them. HAHAHAH my first result was that I couldn’t even get my HAND into the leg of my sock. So I frogged them & moved on. Now I’m ready. With a thicker yarn & bigger needles & I’m ready to go.

BTW. These will NOT be anklets but full on 8′ leg socks & they will be LOVELY! I will also be taking my minimalist cardigan with me. I’m kind of worried about it smelling so badly of camp smoke that I will never get it out, but I’m sure it will be fine. I just want to make some progress on it before I really have to buckle down for Christmas projects.

In other news, I know this is probably a little “toot my own horn” which actually makes me sick to my stomatch a little. But I was featured on WordPress 100 Up And Coming Blogs. It fills me with a mix of diffrent feelings.  I am humbled by those of you that stop by and read me and it totally makes my day that you drop a comment. It makes me feel good that I can entertain you for a few minutes each day. You all seriously rock my world. I am so appreciative of you all!

Lastly of the weekend report, the Mr got out all the camping supplies so that everything is clean and fresh smelling. Watching the weather reports it’s going to get cold at night & I’m going to be in heaven. The mr believes that if I had a good down comforter I would probably sleep in a snow bank if I could. Maybe I would, just to spite him :P   I also got to see my good friend Will. Will and I have been friends since Minnesota, and we both just happened to end up about an hour away from each other in CA. We don’t get together often (the traffic on the 101 prevents us!) but it’s always good to see him :)

Also I finished knitting my Thermal. I have 1 sleeve to sew on tonight when I get home & we are good to go. FO pictures tomorrow.
