Post-Thanksgiving…Post

I didn’t get to take as many pictures as I wanted yesterday because well…I was cooking like a mad woman & trying not to feel judged lol. I don’t think anyone was actually judging me, (well, maybe one person,) but I was worried about it.  Everything went off with out a hitch (for the most part!). I did manage to have my stuffing a little, um, soggy at one point, and I did manage to also completely soak the table as I was pouring water into the glasses. But we all laughed (me first!) and mopped it up & went on with dinner.

First off, I got my chairs done. Here is the end result, complete with Cat.

Hes guarding it from the other cats as hes the only cat I have that doent scratch furniture.

The Mr giving me the “I don’t want you to take my picture so I’m going to make this face and think you won’t enjoy this picture” face. Funny thing is, I love this expression & I have many pictures of him making this face. :)

There might have been some pre-thanksgiving antics by me.

The gold ware (get it, as it’s not silver! HA!) belonged to my mom, I guess it still technically belongs to her, but I inherited it early as they sold their house & now live out of an Airstream & have no room for such things. I dig it, the gold matches the china (which is why I’m sure she got it in the first place, my mom is matchy-matchy) and it’s really different. I love opening up the gold ware box because they just glow!

When I casually mentioned to people that if they broke a plate I wouldn’t be able to easily replace it the plate collector gene flipped on (they all love dishes) and said…well for CHRISTMAS we could get you some. Grandma even went so far as to flip over a plate, find the manufacture & design & write it down.

She will be sorely surprised when she realizes the dinner plates alone now costs $250. Yeah, my mom, she has good taste :) (and I have to admit, I never cared about china, but the more I looked at these plates the more I really liked them).

We are purposely refusing to smile

"We are purposely refusing to smile"

It kind of makes me sad that the Mr’s grandparents completely refuse to look at me and smile for a picture. I have such lovely beautiful portraits of my grandparents I wanted the same of his. But, alas, they are diffrent people, and though I realize not everyone loves getting their photo taken I think it’s important that it’s done as often as possible.  I have lost to many family members that refused to let their picture be taken, and then what are you left with?

Thankfully their daughter is not the same way.

Thankfully their daughter is not the same way.

I have to say, I love my Mr’s aunt. She continually cracks me up & says the most hilarious things. I think this lady gets away with more gibes at the grandparents than anyone else! And now I think the funny face for the camera thing might be genetic :D

And just in case you think I only post unflattering pictures of people here is a nice one.

I am Jerry, and I am the essense of CUTE.

"I am Jerry, and I am the essense of CUTE."

This is the newest addition to the family. His name is Jerry & I am in love with him :D He’s a rescue boy the Mr’s aunt & uncle just adopted. He’s a little shy right now, but he’s sweet, good mannered, and so damn cute.  He’s really got some filling out to do though cause right now he’s all legs!

Rain Drops Are Falling On My Head.

Yesterday evening something happened, something that only happens about 4 times a year in Southern California. It rained.  Now if you have lived in Southern California for any length of  time you probably know the days it rains. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. There may be a few days in between there, but not many. This officially ends “Summer” in California and the parkas (I shit you not) have come out.

Turkey day tomorrow. Baking tonight. National Blogging Month is almost over so that means that I can finally exhale and stop trying to find random things to talk about.

T minus 2.5 days

The theme for today is clean. Clean. Clean. CLEAN.

I’ve realized that I couldn’t care less what the Queen of Clean thinks about my house. I live here, and you know what? I have hobbies, hobbies that do not include cleaning.

Cleaning Zone Out.

Cleaning Zone Out.

Though I will say it feels damn good to have the house this clean. (how long it will stay that way is a completely diffrent matter).

More Alpaca Fun

So I’ve already posted a few cute alpaca pictures but I have more from the weekend that need to be looked over & what not. I mean putting me in close proximity with cute animals & two empty memory cards is a recipe for excess :)

I have to say all in all it was a fabulous, productive weekend. Saturday the Mr and I met up with Mette and Tom at Windy Hills Alpacaranch.  The event was geared more toward breeders and other farmers but it gave the Mr and I a chance to hang out with two of our favorite people. We first met Mette & Tom at their farm, Ranch of the Oaks, on our trip to Morro Bay and we have become fast friends.  Meeting up with them always gives me a chance to buy more of their fabulous yarns & roving. They have a mini mill on their property & make quite amazing yarn. Seriously, go check them out.

Doesnt Tom have the most amazing mustash youve ever seen?

Doesn't Tom have the most amazing mustash you've ever seen?

Tom is quite an accomplished spinner and it was nice to be able to get some tips & tricks from someone who has spun yarns for longer than I have been alive. That wheel right there? It’s older than me! He really helped the Mr with his spinning too, I think a single treadle is in his future. Why? Because as Tom explained, “men aren’t as easily able to keep their knees so close together…” HA! Funny, but makes SENSE!

Spinning, its a spectator sport.

What else was going on during the day? Well, we got to see a baby alpaca being born. How crazy is that?

The indignity of it all is a bit overwhelming

"The indignity of it all is a bit overwhelming"

This poor alpaca mom was subjected to more indignity than I would ever impose on a person. I told the Mr that if we ever have a child of our own that no one is allowed to take pictures of me till after it’s all done, I’ve been able to wash my face & get a little make up on. Also, those families that video tape the birth? That’s just GROSS.

With in an hour this guy was up & running.

With in an hour this guy was up & running.

I ran up & watched with all the people who obviously don’t see this ever day, while Tom & Mette stood back & watched like old pros.

Been there, done that

"Been there, done that"

And the Mr is used to my crazy “RUN FOR ANIMALS OMG!!!” routine so he knows I will get the shot & show it to him later. So usually his is his reaction to me.

Yup, my wife is crazy, but completely entertaining.

"Yup, my wife is crazy, but completely entertaining."

While there we saw Becky & her Mr, John. John remarked that all the alpacas needed some serious dentistry, I couldn’t agree more lol.

Underbite to the X-treme!

"Underbite to the X-treme!"

There were an awful lot of babies running around that day. I guess Alpacas don’t have a “cycle” and you can breed them any time you want. The act of breeding actually makes them ovulate. Learn something new every day don’t we?

I am curly & so cute!

"I am curly & so cute!"

So that was Saturday. Sunday we did something not as fun, but completely necessary. We cleaned. & Cleaned & CLEANED. We are about 3/4ths of the way done & quite happy with that so far. After family dinner (the Mr & I always go over to the inlaws house on Sundays to have dinner with them & visit) I nearly completed my reupholster job on my second chair. I only have one piece left! My fabulous MIL sewed together new covers for the cushions & I couldn’t be happier!

I was a little worried about the thickness of the upholstery fabric, but I had forgotten that my FIL had gotten my MIL the most amazing Viking sewing machine ever invented. Seriously, it sets everything for you. You push the button for what kind of fabric you have, and what kind of stitch & it sets the tension (among other amazing things, I’m pretty sure it set our VCR clock while we weren’t looking too!).

So yes, the count down to thanksgiving is officially on and I’m a little stressed out. BUT! I’m really looking forward to it. Now I just have to find the time to bake up two batches of Pulla for the family or else I’m sure I will be disowned.

Alpacas + Friends = One Awesome Day.

That is my new equation. It’s proven & very trust worthy, live your life by it & you will never be at a loss for smiles.

Today the Mr & I headed up to Windy Hills Alpaca Farm in Somis, CA to see Mette & her husband Tom. What did we do all day? We chatted, well Mette & I mostly chatted (as we now believe that it’s in our Scandinavian viking blood to talk enough for us AND our husbands), knit, and spun. Actually, I didn’t knit, I watched Mette knit, but Tom, the Mr, & I spun. Also? We marveled at the inherent cuteness of the alpaca.

Hey baby, how YOU doin?

"Hey baby, how YOU doin'?"

More pictures & info to follow, but for now marvel at the cuteness.

I would love you more if you had a treat

Thankfully I have Bob to help keep my tension.

Tomorrow I’m off to see Metta @ Windy Hills Alpacas & their fiber meet up. Should be fun. There should also be rare public appearances of the Mr spinning.

Happy Friday to you all! :D

And on the 9th day God Knit

A knitting post. Crazy right? Pretend that I’m not loosing my mind with Christmas knits right now, make no sudden movements & we all should be pretty ok.

I’ve been knitting a little something else besides Christmas knits. My own little Sackboy. Now he has a stuffed head & eyeballs :D I think I might slip some pipe cleaner into his lips though to have them a little bit stiffer. :) He always looks like he’s making this face D: lol

I have a doc appointment tomorrow after work. I’m actually a little bit nervous about it. Really it’s just the woman’s yearly physical of doom we all have to go through, but I have quite a few things that I need to bring up. Things I don’t want to tough it out through anymore.  And it’s a little bit scary. I haven’t been feeling really “well” for a while now. And I’ve also come to realize that I live with pretty much constant pain of some sort. Every day something hurts, and sometimes it hurts so bad that it ruins my entire day.  I don’t whine or cry about my pains (because we all get them) but after the Mr was “fixing me” (aka finding all the right pressure points in my legs & back to relieve tension) he told me it was enough & I needed to ask about this. I’m 26, I shouldn’t hurt every day. So we will see. Also? I’m going to finally demand a hearing test. Last time I brought up my hearing (or inability to do so!) the NP told me to take sudifed. Seriously? Every day? I’m not stuffed up & I don’t think it’s a great thing to take unnecessary drugs. But my hearing has gotten to a point where I almost dread knit night because I won’t be able to hear what anyone says.

But guess what? I’ve totally lost more weight & I don’t know how. So score one for me.

Recyling & Repurposing.

So it’s Tuesday, and National Blogging Month is almost over, thankfully. Maybe I should have joined National Novel Writing month instead? Blogging every day just isn’t as interesting I fear.

So Christmas knitting, is, as was reported in the last 10 billion posts, chugging along. I’m actually 3/4 done with a major project, and about 60% done with my FIL’s big red cotton sweater. You know I love that man if I’m knitting a man sized cotton sweater. But it’s beautiful and if he doesn’t wear it I’m going to poke him right in the eye! :)

So what have I been up to that I can show you? How about my mad reupholstery skills?

Hi! Im now covered in beautiful non-80s fabric!

"Hi! I'm now covered in beautiful non-80's fabric!"

This picture is with out flash & more color accurate. I can’t tell you how happy I am with this chair & the fabric I chose. The green fabric was a remnant & was a grand total of $3.75 for my 4yds. I really did do a happy dance.

Amazing what a little batting can do to perk things up!

Amazing what a little batting can do to perk things up!

Even my MIL who is not a “green person” (meaning while I love green and would cover every square inch in it, she would prefer if green did not exist at all) really loves this fabric & the chair. So that has to say something right? Oh, and I didn’t have enough fabric for the seat so I got some different fabric. And while I was really all about this color when I first bought it, I’m questioning myself right now. I will have to see it all set up.

What? You want to see the before of this chair?

In all its 80s glory.

In all it's 80's glory.

A big difference no? I have to say that my MIL is freaking awesome with the reupholstering. I left off the welting details because I thought it looked way more modern with out it. I think I made a good choice.

Cost of the Chairs = $50.00
       Cost of Fabric = $25.00
       New Cushions = $25.00
                        ———
                   Total = $100.00

How awesome is that? Two really super comfortable chairs, with really good bones repurposed in to two pretty happening pieces. Makes me want to find more pieces to save & refinish!

Also, I took a quiz, anyone who knows me already knows this is pretty accurate. I wouldn’t say “ruin” but my ideas are constantly changing & my views of life are always on the move. How I relate to everyone is in constant flux and it’s mostly because I’m ridiculously ambitious (most days!).

You are The Tower

Ambition, fighting, war, courage. Destruction, danger, fall, ruin.

The Tower represents war, destruction, but also spiritual renewal. Plans are disrupted. Your views and ideas will change as a result.

The Tower is a card about war, a war between the structures of lies and the lightning flash of truth. The Tower stands for “false concepts and institutions that we take for real.” You have been shaken up; blinded by a shocking revelation. It sometimes takes that to see a truth that one refuses to see. Or to bring down beliefs that are so well constructed. What’s most important to remember is that the tearing down of this structure, however painful, makes room for something new to be built.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

Geeking Out.

Today I went & hung out with my good friend Will. To bad he lives an hour away, but it’s well worth it. We’ve been friends since we both live in Minnesota & oddly enough moved out to California seperately (we weren’t really speaking at the time, ya all have been there) with in months of each other.  So we’ve made more of a point to hang out.

I think personally for me this has more to do with my new car. See before I drove a huge ass Chevy Conversion van. The driving wasn’t a problem, it was the parking. I always had to really think about where I was going & when to see if I could actually park that beast. So I didn’t venture out as much.  Now with my little Dodge Hatchback I can get in anywhere & so now I feel amazingly more mobile.

Two things came out of that meet up yesterday. My introduction to an amazingly cute video game called Little Big Planet (which the Mr & I are totally buying because we can work TOGETHER, not necessarily against each other, and if you’ve ever played a game with both the Mr & me you totally understand why we don’t do it) has created a miniature obsession. Probably because it’s rediculously cute. The fact that I’m actually knitting myself a little sackboy is testament enough. (don’t judge till he’s stuffed & wired)

The Start of a Sackman

The Start of a Sackman

Two is the phrase “Hurf Durf Durf” which now is replaying in my head like a broken record (Thanks Will! Payback is a BITCH! :D ) This I’m told is another version of saying “Duh”. I’m a little worried that this phrase will actually come out of my mouth and never leave my vocabulary.

All I have to say is….

MALABRIGO SOCK YARN!

I actually have 6 of these babies. All mine!

I actually have 6 of these babies. All mine!

That is all.
