This Spinning Thing…It’s Addictive.

Well Halloween has past, pumpkins are being set out with the garbage and we are all trying NOT to eat all the Halloween candy left over.  I don’t know about you, but we had a lot left over for we had 2, TWO, trick or treaters hit us up. I was actually really sad about this. But nothing you can really do right? Next year we will buy one bag of candy & be done with it.

Strangely I got no weird looks at the gas station this morning!

What else this weekend? The Mr & I spun on the rented kiwi’s from Susie. I have to tell you, fast & super easy. I have to admit that the first thing you want to do is treadle really fast & I had to kind of think about it not to and by the end of the weekend I was able to keep a constant slow treadle & my spinning is finally getting as even as it is on the spindle. I still think the spindle is a little easier for me to control so far.

So I have to admit something. Spinning dyed roving is kind of a crap shoot for me. Meaning, I LOVE color, LOVE LOVE LOVE it but I don’t always think about how spinning will change the color combinations. Take this Merino that I was SUPER excited about. I LOVED the color combination.

Do these colors remind you of anything? They sure didn’t remind me of anything but lush new green grass. Then I started spinning it.

Hello GREENBAY!

Hello GREENBAY!

I’m not sure where that dark yellow came from. The more & more I spun  I saw it. Greenbay Packers colors. A little disconcerting for the wife of a Pats fan. After convincing myself that “this is just practice who cares” I finished the whole 4 OZes.

Not as bad as I first thought, still Greenbay though!

Plied together it’s not as bad. It’s still totally greenbay & I will get a better shot eventually, but not bad for a practice run. The merino was completely different to spin with, which was fun, but I don’t know that it will be my “go to” fiber as it seems to be for so many other spinners. I’ve dug into a an 8 oz bag of Blue Faced Leicester and woo boy! It is SMELLY! BUT it is also silky soft, much longer haired & is easy to spin.

I’m working on getting it more even. It’s a little frustrating to have the thick thin spots, but I remind myself that I’m still learning. I think I’m going to make this experiment into a cowl for myself :) Something easy with garter st so it’s nice & floofy.

I don’t have any knitting progress to show you because of the stupid secrecy of the knits. I’m almost up the under arms of my FIL’s sweater which is officially one of my favorite sweaters to date & I’m blocking a TON of things for another relatives project & I need to get my ass in gear for my cousins sweater which I’m sure I will cruise right though as she’s tiny  :)

And on an end note, here is my creepy creepy cake in full color. It won first place at my husband’s work & I am now $100 dollars richer.

I am seriously seriously creepy & a totall WINNER!

EDITED TO ADD: I’ve joined NaBloPoMo so you all are going to get a whole lot MORE of me. Which means I might be quite random in my day to day subjects. Just bare with me. Since I’m a total sheep and no sheep likes to be alone I’m challanging three people that I know who blog to do this with me! Rebecca, Allison, Cassie. Get your asses in gear ladies. If you blog every day for a month I will make it worth your while!
