Today marks the 2 year anniversary of my wordpress blog here. I can’t really believe it’s already been two years! To celebrate I’m giving away some goodies. All you need to do is comment to enter. There are SEVERAL prizes so everyone has a good chance of winning a little (or big) something.
I will revele the winners friday. So comment to enter
In other news I am finally getting over the plague I caught while in Minnesota, unfortunately I managed to infect the Mr. Since I was able to recognize it almost immediately he’s been on a drug & vitimin C regiment since friday and is doing much better than I was with the virus.
This weekend Mette invited us up to the ranch for a BBQ at their ranch. When they got there they were just finishing up cleaning up some new born lambs. I couldn’t believe how amazingly cute they were! They looked like mini black poodles & were so tiny! Mette and her husband Tom have a small herd of Icelandic sheep among the various other critters.

Lambs!
May 30th the Mr and I are heading back up to Lompoc to watch (and maybe even help) while Mette & Tom shear all the animals. I can’t wait. Their Icelandic wool is the most amazingly soft & refined lopi I’ve ever felt. The yarns that they produce on the ranch are amazing, the softest alapcas, llamas, and wool ever. All the colors are natural but they are the best of the best for sure.

Icelandic Ewe
And you can’t forget the boys.

Ranch of the Oaks doesn’t only just have sheep, they have alpacas & Llamas too! This llama was the most friendly critter ever. She actually wanted to be pet which, from what I was told, is not really in their nature.

the Mr, Natasha the Llama, & Preita
There were also dogs, cats & orstiches. I have to tell you, I have a strange afinity for rough looking farm dogs. I love how weathered they look. Hank was no exception!

Hank lounging in the grass
And this pup I actually wanted to steal. Mette seems to have quite a lot of dogs with the bi-color eye thing going on. I’ve never seen it before. Hank (above) is blind in one eye, but the pup below isn’t blind at all. Just blue & brown eyes.

I will steal this pup some day!
I also managed to get some spinning & knitting done this weekend. I am working slowly on my forecast sweater (which they should rename the sweater of PURLING because there is very little knitting involved!) in some knit picks stashed yarn (trying to use the stash).

Forecast
And some spinning

The second photo is particularly beautiful. I love sheep and lambs in particular. My aunt used to raise them, and it seemed like every year there would be one orphan who needed to be bottle-fed and kept warm in a box by the fire. They make cute (temporary) pets
did i hear you say goodies?

You asked about the colors of the top. I dyed it with Jacquard acid colors. They’re easy to use, and I have never managed to felt a top, so if I am able to do it, I’m sure anyone is
I recommend trying it sometime – it’s great fun!

Oh, everyone should have a lamb or two of their own. They are so cute and the wool so soft and the best of all, the wool just keeps growing and you never run out of yarn

Congrats on your blogiversary!
Sheep are awesome.
Happy blogiversary!! Hope you feel better soon.
Creeping Crud is the main reason I try to stay away from MN during the winter months. So, that leaves me with two months out of 12 that I can safely visit!! (July and Aug are out due to the huge blood sucking birds.) Glad you’re feeling better.
I plan on taking the Spinsters up to visit Mette and Tom. Looks like we’ll see lots of babies.
Whooohoo! Blogoversary!!! I love your blog! I keep it at the top of my blog-reader so that I will save it for last (with the other good ones) but I always cheat and look at it first because I can’t wait to see what you’re up to!
That ranch looks like so much fun! When I was a kid I listened to “Hank the Cowdog” books on tape all the time, Hank the Cowdog is so cool!
I love Hank!
Happy Blogaversary!
Happy Blogversary!
Your photos are wonderful! They make me want to clear out the back woods and start a fiber farm of my own!
