Pattern Promo & Some Other Stuff

II’ve kinda been a terrible blogger but life finally seems to have gotten back to normal.  Well, normal for us at least.  This has been an insane year for the Mr and I.  It’s like someone took our life, turned it upside down, shook out all the contents, and left them out in the rain.  It hurt, things were uncertain, but I could only have gotten through it because the Mr is my best friend, I have an amazing family, and I am to damn stubborn to stay down for long.

1.  I have published the Pix Wrap and it turned out quite wonderfully.  To celebrate I’m running a buy one get one free promotion on all my patterns.  use promo code YayLife to redeem.

2. Probably the most important thing ever…the Mr and I bought a bar!

The Lighthouse Inn, located in Portland, Oregon, has been around for the last 54 years, before that the building was a bank (it’s old vault is our liquor stock cabinet), and a post office.  Honestly, I really believe that this was the Mr’s life calling.  He loves it (though it is SO MUCH WORK), the customers are freaking awesome, we have a great staff, and there is an amazing sense of accomplishment when someone compliments you on the bar.

If you are in Portland please come down!  We are located off the 30, just over the St. John’s Bridge (tht green one you always see in Grimm) heading to the coast.  You can expect good drinks, amazing burgers, and a laid back attitude where everyone is friendly.

3.  I realize you all have’t seen pictures of goats or anything for a while, so here you go.

Update with Knitting & SHEEPS

Whew, seriously has it been a week already? I can’t believe it’s friday.  It’s odd because my day at work burns by at light speed which is awesome and unexpected.  I was pulled in to the big bosses office again. This makes it 4 times in 3 weeks (if not the 5th time) to ask me what I think about processes and what’s happening in the department.  It’s weird and humbling because though I have the most experience in the entire department I don’t know that I’m ready to offer an opinion on what people have been doing for the last three years.

I won’t bore you though because I fully admit that bankcard is only interesting to people who are in bankcard.  I could wax on about PCI compliance or dues & assessments or truncation but I won’t because that’s not why you come here.

These days though I’ve been pretty boring & I apologize for that.  Good news for you faithful readers is that I am going to the ranch this weekend for National Alpaca Day (NAD HA!).  Yeah, equally as dorky as comic con or Star Trek I take comfort in the fact that I am still not as dorky as the furries.  (I apologize to all furries I have just offended and I’m sure your not all freaks like those popularized on the internet because I’m a knitter and that doesn’t mean I knit weird creepy toilette paper cozies).

For people who come to Mr Poopers for the pictures here ya go.

Handturned niddy noddie out of yellowheart wood.

Handturned niddy noddie out of yellowheart wood.

I found out yesterday through the Mr’s searching (did I know he read my blog? No I did not so I guess I better stop telling stories about him- yeah right) that there is actually ANOTHER Mr. Poopers out there. :/  Though we share a similar blog name I have to claim that I am the original Mr. Poopers and I will not talk about actual poop (unless it’s animal poop and then I might because it’s funny).  Why “Mr” Poopers? Why not? Enough of your questions! Moving along!

Back to more relevent subjects above is a handturned niddy noddy done out of Yellow Heart which I have mistakenly (and quite randomly) been calling lemon wood. Well, either works if you ask me but the Mr insists I correct myself so I will *sigh*.  It’s YELLOW HEART. And it’s for sale.  If you are in California and come to Ranch Of The Oaks this weekend you can buy it.  If it’s stillhere at the end of the weekend it will be for sale on monday I will post it on the blog and you can buy it through etsy.

Random alert!  the Mr hauling a sheep!

More randomness!

And for those of you that come here for the knitting stuff here ya go…

Liesel Handspun Scarf

Liesel Handspun Scarf

I spun this yarnto make this scarf! Crazypants!  Pattern is Liesel & it was fast, fun and totally worth it. Free, easy, & pretty can you ask for more?

Expect tons of pictures from the weekend, not only is it the ranch where we do all sorts of weird, fascinating, fun, and drunken things, but it’s national alpaca day and Carrie is coming & so is Jim & Kathy (though sadly no Jim & Carol which still makes me pout) and other crazy other people who do weird things like help alpacas have sex :)

I also just remembered that sunday is the 6 year anniversary of our wedding.  6 years since the Mr and I had an 8 minute ceremony that was honestly the best decision of my life.  If you’ve been here long you know how I feel about the Mr.  I love him more than I could ever express.  He’s the flame of my heart and the fuel for my soul, he’s my best friend and my biggest fan.

Also I’ve pumped out another 15,000 words which brings me to a ridiculous amount of words and pages and characters and plot lines.  It also means that Mildred has moved on to the third person reading the rough draft and the second part of the “book” is being circulated as I type.  So we will see because the second half is when I get going and um…get bloody ;)

So yeah & stuff with things.  I have to say that facebook is the weirdest invention ever. Two people in the last 2 days who I thought were gone from my life forever have surfaced.  It’s pretty damn neat actually.  How do you sum up 6 years of life? Is it bad manners to say, “Um, read my blog”?

Ostich, Sheep, Alpaca Oh My! (aka another weekend at the ranch)

I have to say that I was a little blown away by the response to my last post.  Who knew that writing about ostriches would be such a hit?  I suppose everyone loves a good crazy story about ostriches and the fools that try to wrangle them :)

Thank you all for stopping by!

Thank you all for stopping by!

This weekend the Mr and I were back up at the ranch.  It’s almost feeling like a second home to us now and it’s harder and harder to leave after each visit.  The weekend was particularly fun because of the excess people and the craziness that entails.  Jim and Carol were up this weekend and I really wish they just didn’t live so damn far away that’s how much I love these people.   The Mr has a really great time being around other men like him (which is important and not as easy to find as you would think).  Being part of a happily married couple means that you have very few couple friends.   Amazingly Jim, Carol, Mette, and Tom fit us perfectly.  I think that they’ve been hiding them all up on the central coast.

So anyways, back to the events (do da-do! *sings musically*).  Saturday morning we woke up and went to a fab little nursery at someone’s house in the canyon.  He used to own a huge nursery but now is “retired” and sells them out of his house.  The Mr got two amazingly succulents & a beautiful ficus (I think?).  They were all rediculously cheap which is the best kind I think!

Then we all went to the La Prisima Mission.  California is full of Missions, we have one in Ventura, there is one in Santa Barbara but this is by far one of the nicest ones I’ve seen and it’s almost fully intact I would say.

It was a special event this weekend (though I’m not sure what exactly it was called) where the volunteers all dressed up in period style dress. It was pretty cool.

This guy was hilarious because he cornered us to tell the Mr and I all about how haunted this mission is.  I guess it ranks #4 in California as the most haunted? (Is there an actual data base for this kind of thing?)  I have to say he was very interesting and it’s neat that the Travel Channel was juts here doing a piece on the mission. I hope they caught some ghosts because I certainly DID NOT. :/

No orthopedic matresses here!

The buildings were in great shape and this church was especially impressive though I will admit that when the volunteer tried to avoid a little backstory about some of the artifacts by asking ”how many people here were raised catholic?” he did get a lot of blank faces.  Not  a lot of that going on in my group of friends lol.

There was a neato bell wheel. I guess these catholics liked bells?

The thing next to it was a clapper of sorts.  Basically its function was at the end of the service to make a WHOLE LOT OF NOISE to wake people up. :/ I think if you need a machine in church to wake people up you weren’t doing something right.  Just sayin’.  It was really pretty though.

New talents were explored.

It was a great day at the mission and afterwards the boys were a little loopy and ready for a cocktail.

Lots of meat was cooked, stories shared, laughs echoing and good times were had.

It’s a little funny that a year ago we didn’t even know any of these people.  A year ago I didn’t know I would be hanging out with sheep & goats & alpacas & llamas. I’m still amazed. (Yes I do need to dye my hair, please don’t focus too harshly on my blond roots!)

I have two finished knits to share with you so stay tuned!

Friday Fair Goodness (With Sheep!)

Friday I went to the Ventura County Fair for the modified sheep to shawl.  I was under the impression that this was a competition but I guess I was mistaken.  God knows I love a good competition because I suffer from the “Bigger, Better, Faster Syndrome” (and no matter what I want to be #1) but no one was competing so it was fine.  I got to hang out with fellow spinners and see mass amounts of sheep.

They are most likely laughing at something totally inappropriate.

I had a great time. I’m still getting over being incredibly sick but it was the first day I felt OK to be out in public.  Summer colds are officially the worst thing ever!

Sweetest Face EVER

Sweetest Face EVER

The Mr is officially the pied piper of sheep. They adore him.  They all ran to the front of their pens to meet him which wasn’t happening with the rest of the people going down the lines.  They all looked at him with big sheepy eyes full of love and requested scratches.

Look at those adoring eyes! That smile!

Look at those adoring eyes! That smile!

Could a sheep look anymore adoringly at a person? I doubt it!  He even looks like he’s smiling!  This is the effect that the Mr had on the sheep.  And I do know that these sheep are dragged around to fair after fair and used to people touching them but it was a little more than that.

Another thing I couldn’t get over was how BIG they are!  I’m so used to Mette & Tom’s little icelandic sheep that I couldn’t believe there were sheep the size of small horses!  I still want to take one & put it in the back yard.  I think if the neighbor can have a herd of Yorkshire Terriers running wild I should be able to have  a sheep.

Still in the animal subject but a slightly different species I found this beetle on my sidewalk thursday.  It was awesome and  beautiful but I can’t figure out what kind of beetle it is!  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Please ID this awesome Beetle!

EDIT TO ADD! Bea found my beetle for me! It’s a Figeater Beetle.  Thanks Bea!

And finally the Mr & I have finished spinning some yarns.

I found an old gift card the other day that was still good so I went strait to Amazon and purchased a butt load of books including Joe Abercrombie’s newest book Best Served Cold.  I can’t wait to read it and am hoping that it’s as fabulous as The First Law series.  Expect a review as soon as I finish it ;)
